SM City Cebu and the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño will hold a Sto. Niño exhibit at the SM City Cebu Art Center from Jan. 12 to 19.
The exhibit will feature different Sto. Niño devotions in the Philippines, and paintings on the miracles of the Sto. Niño in the different parts of the country.
The exhibit will also serve as an introduction to the 450th anniversary of the Finding of the Sto.Niño statuette and the 50th anniversary of the Sto. Niño Church as Basilica Minore.
The Sto. Niño is the oldest religious Christian image in the Philippines, and was originally given in 1521 as a baptismal gift by Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan via Antonio Pigafetta, who physically handed it to Lady Humamay, the chief consort of Rajah Humabon, along with a Cross and a statue of the Our Lady.
An enthronement of the Sto. Niño pilgrim image happens on Jan. 13 at 5 p.m. in SM Art Center. Rev. Fr. Jonas Mejares, rector of the Basilica Minore, will lead the enthronement of the image along with other priests./ PR
