Jan Godfrey Seno will have a go at a sixth straight championship title today when he starts his campaign in the third leg of the 2015 Cebuana Lhuillier Age Group Tournament at the Citigreen Tennis Resorts in Labangon and the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club tennis courts in Pardo, Cebu City.
Shynne Villareal, for her part, will try to improve her Philippine Tennis Association (Philta) January 2015 ranking as well as exact revenge on Bright Academy’s Zethley Mae Alferez when she goes for the championship title in the 16-Under and 18-Under Girls divisions.
The 15-year-old University of San Carlos-BED ace Seno won a total of four championship titles in November and December last year in two major age group tournaments, the Cebuana Lhuillier Age Group Tournament and the Palawan Pawnshop Age Group.
The Bogo City-native Seno will be competing in the Boys’ 16-Under and 18-Under divisions.
Villareal is coming from disappointing losses in her titular match-ups against fellow Naga City player Alferez in the 2014 Palawan Pawnshop Regional Age Group tennis tournament at the Naga Country Club tennis courts last December.
Aside from trying to get back at Alferez, she also looks to improve her no.11 ranking in the Philta Girls 18-Under list as of January 2015.
She is the highest-ranked Cebu-based player in the category.
The Cebuana Lhuillier tournament, which has been running for nine years, has just recently been upgraded to a Group 2 event by the country’s tennis governing body, Philta.
According to tournament director Mario Craiz a new format will be introduced this year. The new format includes the staging of 34 legs around the country and a battle of champions-sort of tournament for all the 34 leg winners in December.
