INTERNATIONAL Master (IM) Kim Steven Yap will hold two tournaments this February at the Cebu School of Chess along P. Del Rosario St., Cebu City.
The first will be a rare all-women’s chess tournament slated Jan. 31 to Feb. 1, which will be held in partnership with Rose Pharmacy.
The following week, they will be holding the second qualifying kiddies tournament of the school of chess.
According to IM Yap, who is the managing director of Cebu School of Chess, the main goal of the all-women’s chess tournament is to develop the wood pushing skills of Cebuana chess enthusiasts.
“We want to promote chess to women also and we want to develop their skills and become competitive and become future representatives not just for Cebu but for the entire country,” Yap said.
Yap said they are only aiming for a maximum of 30 players for this tournament since it’s their first time to stage this kind of event and there may also be just a few female players who are active in Cebu.
The tournament will be using a seven-round Swiss system format following FIDE laws of chess.
Registration fee is pegged at P250 for players 20 years old and older and P200 for those below 20. Cebu School of Chess members can register for P150.
Registration fee for the kiddies tournament is pegged at P100 for members and P150 for non members.
