Cebu City’s college scholars will receive a P1,000 monthly transportation allowance for school year 2015-2016, up from the P500 given to them in the current school year.
This is good news for college scholars like Fatima Ruth Saromines, a 2nd-year student of Cebu Normal University.
She said she was not able to buy books due to the delay in receiving her allowance from the city government.
“Last year, we received our allowance for the first semester last December. This is good news for me,” Saromines said.
Dizon said the council will ask the executive department to release the allowances of the scholars on schedule.
Dizon said the participating schools in the city’s college scholarship program should submit the complete list of beneficiaries so the allowances can be distributed on time.
He said the allowances should be included in the supplemental budget.
The Cebu City Council will discuss raising the scholarship grant to P10,000 for every scholar in next week’s session.
