In the video documentary, Rolando Pascua’s “Dare to Live,” bested other entries. It also grabbed awards for Best Direction, Best Editing, Best Sound Engineering, Best Cinematography, Best Packing and Best Poster.
The entry of Patricia Joy Martinez and Nikko Dajao entitled “Sangpit” ranked second while Januar Yap’s “Dios, dios” got the third place.
Pascua received P100,000; P50,000 for “Sangpit”; and P30,000 for Yap.
Yap’s other entry “Sangay” got the Best Story Award while Best Musical Scoring went to Yap’s entry “Dios, dios.” Jeffrey
Maraviles got the Best Narration award.
In the short film category, Ara Chawdhury’s “Operation Prutas,” a story of thieves who stole the image of Senyor Santo Niño then instead stumble on a miracle won the first prize. It also garnered Best in Editing.
Chawdhury also received the Best Director award.

“Kab-ot,” a love story between an atheist and a devotee of Senyor Santo Niño, directed by Davinci S. Maru, landed in the second prize. The entry also bagged awards for Best Sound Engineering, Best Production Design, Best Cinematography and Best Screenplay
“Pahiyom alang kang Evelyn” by Chloe Veloso placed third and also won the Best Story award.
Best Child Performer was bagged by John Neil Torente Roa in the entry, “Sampaguita.” Duwic Medalla for “Pagsalig” was named Best Supporting Actor while Best Supporting Actress was Charisse Mari Fonacier in “Operation Prutas.”
A new category was added to this year’s film fest, the Music Video Competition.
Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) executive director Ricky Ballesteros said this was added to encourage more youth to participate in showcasing Cebuano talent not just in film but also in songwriting.
“This year, so far, is the most successful film fest for the past years, the entries were overwhelming, the photos and the short films and documentaries. We couldn’t be happier knowing that every year, the participants are increasing,” said.
The winners in the Music Video contest were: first place “Combo Lata” by Poh 2; “Batang Balaan” by Ronnel Villaflor; “Ayaw ko Buhii” by Mary Grace Remo and Hanz Florentino got the second and third place, respectively.
This year’s Sinulog Photo Contest grand prize winners are Catherine Angeles (first prize) and she will receive P100,000. Jover Alforque who ranked second will receive P50,000. Oligario Cortes who ranked third will receive P30,000.
The awarding ceremony held at SM City Cebu Cinema One last Saturday also showcased featured performances from Sinulog Idol 2015 winners.
