Seno excited for debut in Cagayan de Oro

CAGAYAN DE ORO—Cebuano junior tennis stars Jan Godfrey Seno and Marc Nicole Suson will start their respective campaigns today in the Cebuana Lhuillier-Dunlop Sport tennis tournament at the Nazareth tennis courts in barangay Nazareth here.

The University of San Carlos-Basic Education Dept. (USC-BED) student Seno will be competing in the premier Boys’ 18-Under division and the Boys’ 16-Under category. University of Cebu’s (UC) Suson will also play in those age groups.

It will be the first time Seno, ranked 52nd in the Philta Boys’ 16-Under division, will be playing here in the capital of northern Mindanao also known as the City of Golden Friendship.

“Excited to play here for the first time. Daghan na man pud players ang ga-invite nako before nga mo duwa diri but karon pa gyud ko naka ari,” said Seno, who is fresh from a stint in the Palawan tennis tournament in Davao City, where he topped the boys’ 16-Under division.

The 15-year-old Seno, who hails from Bogo City, northern Cebu, drew a bye in yesterday’s opening day of action in the 16-Under division, where he is set for a possible meeting against top seed and Cagayan de Oro City-native Clyde Marie Casino.

Seno, who is seeking a seat in the Philippine National Junior Davis Cup team, has already beaten Casino in the 2015 Cebuana Lhuillier Age Group Tournament at the Citigreen Tennis Resorts in Labangon, en route to the boys’ 18-Under title.

Seno will be waiting for today’s winner between Zachary Jon Panganiban and Dawson Jean Ormoc for his first match in the U-16 division.

In the 18-Under division, Seno will play his first match at 5 p.m. today versus Jievy Lance Jumawan in a bid for a possible match up against the host city’s top-seed Dave Sebastian Mosqueda.

I yesterday’s opening day of action in the U-18 division, Matt Steve Palasan scored a lopsided 6-1, 6-1 win over Jenkin Paul Montejo to advance to the quarterfinals.

In the U-16 division, Shan Daryl Laput bested Jonne Rey Gulle, 6-0, 6-0, while Fonzy Yepis routed Hugh Von Esling, 6-2, 6-0.
