Batch 1995, 1996 trounce separate foes

BATCH 1995-La Nueva Pharmacy and Batch 1996-Blakeley’s Motorcare joined the winners’ circle after they beat separate opponents last Tuesday night in the newly-opened Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association 14th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup at the CEC Gym.

Batch ‘95 drew solid games from Donald Anthony Ting and Dean Dy Teves but had to scramble at the finish to eke past Batch ‘90s/2001-AJL Surplus, 68-66, while Batch ‘96 chalked up its own victory at the expense of Batch 2005-Headway Motorcycle Hub, 80-74.

Ting erupted for a team-high 29 points to lead Batch ‘95, while Dy Tevez piled up 13 points and 14 rebounds.

Though in a losing effort, the come-backing Paul Martin Gabatan, who last played in the eighth season of the tournament, was impressive in his return as he tallied a game-high 32 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Peter dela Torre and Ryan Racal added 19 and 14 markers, respectively.

Rex Allinson and Dreyfuss Ang, meanwhile, led the way for Batch ‘96 with 17 markers each, while Brian Patiño and Rogelio Donayre Jr. chipped in 13 and 10, respectively.

Kent Uy piled up 23 markers and 10 boards for Batch 2005 while Philip Lua contributed 21.
