Mandaue trike drivers back fare cut

TRICYCLE drivers and operators in Mandaue City are amenable to the proposal to reduce the minimum tricycle fare  from P8 to P7.

At yesterday’s public hearing of a Mandaue City Council committee which was attended by about 20 officials of different tricycle associations, they expressed their support to the proposed ordinance authored by Councilor Elstone Dabon that would mandate the fare cut.

Dabon explained that when the City Council passed the ordinance fixing the minimum fare at P8 in 2011, the price of gasoline was more than P50 per liter.

Now that the price per liter has decreased to about P38, Dabon said it is reasonable to let the riding public enjoy the benefits of the price reduction.

Dabon said Councilor Nenita Layese, the chairman of the committee on laws, will present her report on the results of the hearing during the City Council session on Wednesday.

The councilor hopes that the ordinance will be approved before month’s end.
