Slain cop’s cellphone could lead to clues

Investigators are hoping to find clues in the mobile phone of SPO4 Razul Segismar who was shot dead near his home in Minglanilla town, southern Cebu at dawn Saturday.

His cellphone was sent to the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group laboratory for forensic examination. Investigators could not retrieve the messages or open the call log since the gadget’s pass code was locked. His wife also does did know the pass code.

Chief Insp. Richard Gadingan, chief of police of Minglanilla, said they still don’t know the motive of the attack.
No witnesses have come forward to describe what happened.

Gadingan said he hopes the messages and call log will give them a clue if someone harbored a grudge or had threatened Segismar.

Segismar, 48, was formerly assigned at Minglanilla Municipal Police Office, but was reassigned to Boljoon in February last year.

In September, he asked to be reassigned to Minglanilla as traveling to Boljoon was physically taxing.

After two months, he was again moved to Boljoon . He was assigned there until his death last Saturday.

Senior Supt. Noel Gillamac, Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) director, said there was an issue surrounding Segismar’s transfer to Boljoon but he refused to give details pending investigation and out of respect for the grieving family.

Gadingan, who was Segismar’s former superior, also refused to comment on why Segismar was reassigned.

He just said Segismar did not ask for his reassignment.

They only received an order from the CPPO headquarters for Segismar’s transfer to Boljoon upon the request of some elected officials of Minglanilla town.

Gadingan said they will include the reason behind his reassignment in their investigation as this could give them a lead on the motive of the attack.

Gadingan formed a team tasked to focus on Segismar’s case.

Segismar was gunned down on Valentine’s Day by two men riding a motorcycle.

He was about 200 meters from his house in Ward 2, barangay Poblacion, Minglanilla.

He was on duty in Boljoon police but had asked for permission to go home early because he wanted to spend Valentine’s Day at home with his family.

Before he was killed, he was able to send a Valentine greeting to his wife in a text message saying he loves her forever. His wife was wondering why he did not reply to her messages. She was later informed that her husband was shot dead.
