Drug suspect killed, 5 nabbed in Lapu shootout

Police fatally shot a man and arrested five others in a buy-bust operation that ended in a shootout in barangay Gun-ob, Lapu-Lapu City.

Killed was Jun-Jun Sollano, who allegedly shot it out with police using a .357 cal. revolver.

Arrested were 30-year-old Randy Hilot, the target of the operation, and his alleged cohorts: Junel Cabanes, 34, Antero Cañete, 38, Alexander Capilit, 45, and Roel Rizon, 32.

The operation was conducted by operatives of Police Station 3 and the City Intelligence Branch (CIB) of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office.

Police said a poseur-buyer transacted with Hilot in sitio Balanghoy at 11:40 p.m. last Wednesday.
When money and a pack of suspected shabu changed hands, policemen appeared and arrested Hilot and Rizon.

Police also apprehended Cabanes, Cañete and Capilit but Sollano was able to run.

PO3 Archel Tero gave chase but was shot in the abdomen. Luckily, Tero was wearing a bullet-proof vest.

Tero returned fire, hitting Sollano in the head.

Police recovered 32 sachets of suspected shabu from Hilot, a 9mm pistol with five bullets and the P200 cash used as buy-bust money.

Cabanes yielded six sachets of suspected shabu, while eight sachets believed to contain shabu were seized from Cañete.

Recovered from Capilit were 11 sachets of shabu.

Police said the seized packs of suspected shabu had an estimated street value of  P140,000.

Police said the information that the suspects were involved in selling illegal drugs came from Camp Crame.
