Cebu Niños off to solid start in 2015 CVIRAA

DEFENDING champion Cebu City plucked two gold medals in secondary track and field yesterday at the start of the 2015 Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association regional meet in Balamban, Cebu.

The Niños also earned multiple medals in elementary arnis.

Meanwhile, Mandaue City’s Shanelle Demilys Siasoyco became the meet’s first gold medal winner after she ruled the secondary girls shot put.

Nina Marie Antiola and Jan Moses Estrada accounted for Cebu City’s first day golds.

Antiola topped the secondary girls long jump while Estrada ruled the secondary boys shot put.

Jhuvan John Baculot won silver in secondary boys long jump while Jan Allyson Pajantoy added another silver in secondary girls shot put. Pajantoy’s teammate, Kim Obuta, won bronze in the event.

The city’s medallists in the elementary division were Rex Amamangpang (silver) in long jump; the city’s arnis team powered by the University of Cebu Elementary School which won five silvers and a bronze at the Barangay Aliwanay Sports

Meanwhile, the CVIRAA swimming event was moved from yesterday to today at the Cebu City Aquatics Center after tournament managers decided to hold first the swimming event for Special Education (Sped) pupils.

The Sped swimming is a demonstration sport in the CVIRAA.

Meanwhile, this year’s regional meet will formally open at 4 p.m. today in glitzy ceremonies to be witnessed by 2,000 athletes, coaches and school officials from the provinces of Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor.

The winners will represent CVIRAA in the 2015 Palarong Pambansa in Tagum City, Davao del Norte in May.
