TEAM ASPA staked their claim of the leadership in the Elite category of the Indie Basketball Cebu basketball tournament as it dusted off the defending champion Autolab, 86-78, last Sunday at the Pope John XXIII Seminary gym.
Arnold Quilaton drained four triples and ended up with 14 points to help ASPA grab the lead in its class with a clean 3-0 (win-loss) mark.
With the loss, Autolab fell to third place with a 2-1 record.
The University of San Carlos (USC)-B grabbed second place with its third win in four outings after beating Dolphin Elite, 74-61.
Former Ateneo de Cebu guard AJ Ong led the winning side with 19 markers.
Meanwhile, Joe Manggs won its first game of the tournament with a 63-54 victory over Grand Matadors.
In the 6-feet under division, Open Mic survived East West Cuisine, 60-56, to get its third straight win.
Justin delos Reyes scored 13 markers to help Open Mic nab a share of the lead in Bracket 4 with the idle SG/ARQ.
Park N Go also remained unbeaten with an 82-60 rout of the ASI Publishers while Team Sabrina won its second straight game with a 73-56 win over Dent Tech.
Another squad that kept its slate clean was SMCCO, which beat BCT, 53-40, for its third win in as many games.
Shoho Q finally managed to pull out a win and defeated the KNK Builders 56-49 behind Joe Española’s 10 points and five rebounds.
In other games, the Knights beat Team Penguins 75-57 while Kamikazee notched its second win of the season by defeating Twigs, 61-54. ASPA also emerged victorious over Game On, 71-54, while former University of the Visayas Green Lancer Paco Delatar waxed hot for 20 points to lead Parklane to a 71-53 win over CEI.
