Jennica Garcia has confirmed that her annulment with estranged husband, actor Alwyn Uytingco, is currently ongoing, months after revealing that their efforts at reconciliation didn’t work.
Garcia revealed in an interview during a brand launch that she and Uytingco, who’s also the father of their daughters Athena and Severina, have been separated for “three years now” when asked about the status of their relationship, as seen in a recording by ABS-CBN News.
“Definitely, we’re already separated. Mga (about) three years. And we’re already working on the annulment,” she said, although she remained mum on the details.
The “Dirty Linen” star then admitted that she tried dating when her marriage with the actor fell apart, but she realized that she wants to focus on her responsibilities as a single mother.
“Hindi ko rin po ma-imagine ngayon kasi siyempre, dahil siguro single mom [ako]. Kung hindi ako single mom and I was just simply married, maybe I’d be more open to being in a serious relationship again… Naging open naman ako to dating — and I did date pero kasi minsan, okay [siya na] parang partner ko lang. Paano ‘yun? As a single mom, dapat nakikita ko rin siya as a good father,” she said.
(I can’t imagine myself being in a serious relationship for now because maybe I’m a single mom. If I’m not a single mom and I was just simply married, maybe I’d be more open to being in a serious relationship again… I was open to dating — and I did date. But sometimes, he’s okay just as a partner. How can that work? As a single mom, I should see him as a good father as well.)
“I’m not saying that [he’s not] a good father. It’s just that it’s something that I envision at the moment. Kasi kapag inisip ko ‘yung sarili ko na he’s being a good partner, parang ang selfish ko kasi (Because if I think to myself that he’s a good partner, that would make me selfish),” she further said.
Garcia shared that she gave Uytingco a “second chance,” but that their attempts at reconciliation made her feel empty, as seen in a Tiktok video by entertainment journalist MJ Felipe.
“‘Yung second chance po kay Alwyn, nabigay ko na po ‘yun sa kanya. Nabigay ko na sa kanya at dumating lang sa point na wala na po kayang ibigay (I gave Alwyn a second chance. I gave him that, but it came to the point where I have nothing left to give),” she said.
Garcia’s revelation comes months after confirming her split with the actor in February of this year, saying she doesn’t want to delve deeper into the topic since they’re living “separate lives.” Despite this, she said she considers her estranged husband and his loved ones as “family.”
The former partners first split in May 2021, but Uytingco said he is trying to get back with the “Dirty Linen” star in October of the same year. They tied the knot in 2014.
