CEBU CITY, Philippines — The reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) Global super bantamweight champion John Riel “Quadro Alas” Casimero will make his debut in Japan by taking on Yukinori Oguni on October 12, 2023, at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan.

This was officially announced by Treasure Boxing Promotions’ chief Masayuki Ito, Casimero’s current promoter and manager, on Monday, August 28, 2023, in a press conference held in Japan.

Casimero will have his second fight under Treasure Boxing Promotions after signing a contract with the latter last February.

His first bout under Treasure Boxing was last May at the Okada Manila Hotel and Casino in Manila. Casimero wrested the WBO Global title by defeating Namibian Fillipus Nghitumbwa by unanimous decision.

Casimero aim to be world champ again

The 34-year-old Casimero is in pursuit of becoming a world champion anew after being stripped of his WBO world bantamweight title in 2022. It was after he violated the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) ban on sauna use for reducing weight. He was supposed to defend his title against British Paul Butler.

Still, Casimero bounced back from the huge setback and won two big bouts, including last May’s win against Nghitumbwa. Before that, Casimero was involved in another controversy after losing to Japanese Ryo Akaho by disqualification for allegedly hitting the latter in the back of the head in their fight held in South Korea in December 2022.

The Korean Boxing Member Commission (KBM) later overturned the decision as a knockout win for Casimero.

Casimero has a record of 33 wins, 22 knockouts, and 4 losses.
