THE remains of slain German Henry Haffner was airlifted back to his hometown Duderstadt, Germany yesterday morning.
Sheila Jane Gimutao, the 24-year-old girlfriend of the late Haffner told Cebu Daily News that a Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight carried Haffner’s remains from Mactan Cebu International Airport.
Haffner will be laid to rest on Friday next week in his hometown. Gimutao is leaving for Germany on Wednesday.
Haffner was shot while dining in a McDonald’s restaurant in Talisay City, Cebu last Feb. 20. A Frenchman and an Indian who figured in a fight with a group of locals were also wounded in the shooting. Three suspects have been arrested and are now facing murder and frustrated murder cases. Two other suspects remain at large.
Haffner first came to the Philippines to volunteer in relief and rehabilitation work in the aftermath of the October 15, 2013 Bohol earthquake and the supertyphoon Yolanda/Haiyan which struck on Nov. 8, 2013.
