Just when you think that Jungkook or Jennie Kim are always the frontrunners, it’s about time we put fur babies in the spotlight. Meet Dalbong, the Filipino corgi who just snagged a title at the World Dog Show 2023.

Wency Villanueva, the Filipino dog owner of the four-year-old male Pembroke Welsh Corgi and president of the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Association of the Philippines (PWCAP), was beaming with pride when Dalbong clinched the “World Winner” and “Best of Breed” titles in the prestigious dog competition held in Geneva, Switzerland from Aug. 24 to 27.

“We are so happy to wave the flag of the Philippines in the world-class conformation, with full of dedication and love to our passion. We made it!!!” Villanueva exclaimed on social media.

Triumph beyond borders

Named after Park Hyungsik’s character in the K-drama “What Happens to My Family,” Dalbong is no stranger to the world of dog competition having been strutting the stage since he was six months old.

This corgi’s victories include winning the Mera Philippines Top Dog 2021, “Best in Show” at Impact Thailand Dog Show 2013, and even at the Vietnam Dog Show 2022.

But it’s not just about the accolades for Villanueva and his fur baby that matter. Their victory resonates with other pet parents, too, leaving a message of belief in their fur babies.

“Never lose faith in yourself and always believe in your dog. If you think your dog has what it takes, keep pushing forward! Never give up and love your passion until you achieve success,” Villanueva passionately said on Facebook.

Just like any other pet, Dalbong takes up a big chunk of Villanueva’s life, and it is evident on his Instagram. From beach trips to weekend strolls, Dalbong is always present and is on the receiving end of love, as he should. All dogs in the world should receive love whatever breed they may be.

This year’s World Dog Show welcomed breeders, exhibitors, and handlers from around the world, all with the goal of showcasing their dogs’ talents and skills. More than 130 of the finest corgis worldwide gathered alongside other breeds.

Planning to show your dogs to the world? The next World Dog Show will be held in Zagreb in April 2024. You can check their website for further deets.
