LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu—The Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LCPO) continues to monitor politicians whom they considered as target personalities in lieu of the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) on October 30, 2023.
Police Colonel Elmer Lim, city director of LCPO, said that they are doing this to protect politicians, especially those who received threats.
“Kining mga politiko nato sa area nga naay threat, gitagaan nato ug security with the approval of COMELEC (Commission on Elections) and PRO-7 (Police Regional Office in Central Visayas),” Lim said.
With this, Lim urged politicians who receive threats to approach them so that they can be given extra protection as the election nears.
Aside from this, Lim said that they will also patrol residences of those politicians who receive threats.
Lim also said that they are monitoring personalities whom they believe could create chaos during the elections, such as gun-for-hire groups, criminal gangs, and private armed groups.
“So basta naa ka sa listahan, monitoron ka,” he said.
LCPO has continued to coordinate with the COMELEC in conducting checkpoints for the elections.
Lim said Lapu-Lapu City is placed under “normal situation” by the COMELEC, with no immediate concern for the upcoming Barangay and SK elections.
