Top runners to join 4th Kawasan Marathon

SOME of the best runners in the region will be competing in the fourth edition of the Kawasan Falls Marathon slated this Sunday in the scenic town of Badian, southwestern Cebu.

The list of contenders was bared recently by Dr. Potenciano “Yong” Larrazabal III of the organizing Run for Sight Foundation.

Topping the list in the premier 42-kilometer category is Kenyan Elliud Kering, who will be challenged by Filipino runners such as Michael Largo, Paul James Zafico and Bonicafio Monjas.

Elmer Bartolo and Ruffa Sorongan leads the list in the 21k half marathon category as they will be challenged by Kenyans Abraham Missous and Douglas Mwiti.

In the 12k race, the vaunted Andrin sisters, Lovely Fe, Jhean and Cherry, will be among the favorites in the female division.

Another Kenyan, James Mebei, will lead the men’s side as he gets tough competition against locals such as Prince Joey Lee.

Larrazabal said that all is set for the race, whose route traverses three scenic southern towns of Badian, Alegria and Malabuyoc.

“We have already met with the local government unit of the three towns and they already expressed their excitement to handle the race,” Larrazabal said.

The race will start and finish in a trail near the famous Kawasan Falls in Badian, which is around 90 kilometers from Cebu City.
