Miami, Vienna forge finals showdown in Chooks-to-Go FIBA 3×3 Cebu Masters

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Miami-USA and Vienna-Austria forged a championship showdown in the Chooks-to-Go FIBA 3×3 World Tour Cebu Masters on Sunday night, September 24, 2023.

Miami-USA staged a huge upset after defeating UB Huishan NE-Serbia, 21-13, in the semifinals held earlier today at the SM Seaside City Cebu, while, Vienna-Austria outlasted Amsterdam-Netherlands, 19-18, in the other semifinals game to advance to the much-awaited finals. 

It can be recalled that Serbia defeated United States in last June’s FIBA 3×3 World Cup 2023 in Vienna, Austria. Both teams fielded in the same players that competed in the World Cup and the FIBA 3×3 Cebu Masters.

That heartbreaking defeat fueled Miami’s determination to upset the reigning world champions in the heart of Cebu.

Veteran cager Jimmer Fredette led Miami with 11 points while Strahinja Stojacic had seven points for the Serbians. 

Canyon Barry, son of NBA legend Rick Barry, contributed seven points in Miami’s finals-clinching victory, while Dylan Travis and Kareem Maddox combined for three points. 

Vladimir Dordevic, Dejan Majstorovic, and Marko Brankovic each scored two points in UB Huishan’s losing efforts.

Meanwhile, Vienna’s Quincy Diggs sank the game-winning floater with a second remaining in the game to beat Amsterdam in their thrilling semifinals duel.

Diggs finished with seven points while Matthias Linortner added six points for Vienna. 

Worthy de Jong had eight points in Amsterdam’s loss.

The champion team takes home $40,000 while the second placer gets $30,000, and $22,000 for the third placer.
