CEBU CITY, Philippines — Danao City leaders are bent on making the city smoke-free as they plan to expand the scope of an existing ordinance that prohibits smoking in select areas in the city.
The city council is currently reviewing its Anti-Smoking Ordinance No. 31-14 which was approved in 2014.
Based on the ordinance, smoking is prohibited within the city hall of Danao, including in its surroundings and neighboring establishments.
But during their session on September 26, the city council wanted to implement the anti-smoking ordinance in the entire city.
According to the City Information Office, the city council has already drafted an ordinance during their session yesterday.
The city council will also identify the designated smoking areas that will be established.
Aside from this, the city also will create a task force that will monitor the implementation of the proposed ordinance.
The council will also identify the sanctions that would be meted against those who will violate the policy. /rcg
