CEBU CITY, Philippines – Metro Cebu and the rest of Cebu province could expect mostly cloudy skies, with chances of rains and thunderstorms in the next three days, from Sunday to Tuesday, October 1 to 3, 2023.
This was according to Engineer Al Quiblat, chief of Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration in Mactan (Pagasa-Mactan), who spoke to CDN Digital in a phone interview on Saturday, September 30,2023.
According to Quiblat, the gloomy weather will be caused by the Tropical Storm Jenny which is expected to develop into a typhoon on Monday or Tuesday.

However, Quiblat said that the storm will not have any direct effects on the Visayas, other than cause the Southwest Monsoon or the Habagat to intensify.
Quiblat added that in comparison to Western Visayas, the effects of Tropical Storm would be much less in Central Visayas.
In Metro Cebu, there was 50 to 60 percent chance of rain, especially in the afternoon and the evening, said Quiblat.
Quiblat added that isolated rains and thunderstorms are expected in specific areas in Metro Cebu.
He also said that there was a possibility for the occurrence of severe thunderstorms in the evening which was why the public should take precaution.
“Dunay higayon nga severe thunderstorm hilabi nag init kaayo sa buntag. Intense man na ang evaporation diha. So magbantay ta kay sa posibleng mga pagkusog sa pag-uwan,” he said.
Meanwhile, wind conditions will be moderate to strong, moving at 20 to 40 kilometers per hour, Quiblat said.
Quiblat said that they do not expect any gale warning. Still, he advised fishermen to take caution and be on alert for thunderstorm warnings.
On Friday, September 29, Pagasa-Mactan registered a 38.0 degrees Celsius heat index.
For Saturday, September 30, and Sunday, October 1, the heat index was forecasted to reach 39 degrees Celsius.
The temperature will range between 28 to 32 degrees celsius in the next three days.
Quiblat said that Tropical Storm Jenny was headed to Western Luzon, between Batanes and Taiwan, and was expected to make a downfall by Tuesday.
Because of this, he said that the weather condition in Metro Cebu and the rest of Cebu province was expected to improve by Wednesday, September 4.
Quiblat is asking Cebuanos to always check for thunderstorm warnings on their social media page so that they can prepare for heavy downpour that may cause floods and landslides.
He also advised residents to take caution when going out and to always be prepared in case of bad weather.
