Five more residents of sitio Bayabas, barangay Subayon, Toledo City were put under observation at the Toledo City District Hospital after they complained of fever, abdominal pain, and cough and colds.
Subayon barangay captain Florante Lariba told Cebu Daily News as of 3 p.m. yesterday, 28 residents have been brought to the hospital.
Lariba said nine patients have shown improvement.
The youngest patient is three-month-old girl. The oldest is a 40-year-old woman.
Lariba said the Provincial Epidemiological and Surveillance Unit (PESU) and the Lebumfacil Sta. Ana Medical Foundation provided medicines for the residents, while the Regional Epidemiological and Surveillance Unit (RESU) gave vitamins.
Lariba said teams from the PESU and RESU took water samples from the community’s water sources. Renan Cimafranca, RESU head said they have yet to determine whether the residents have typhoid fever or dengue fever because the patients’ platelet count were low.
Last week, the PESU conducted Typhidot tests on nine confined patients, but all tested negative.
Sitio Bayabas is located three kilometers away from the national highway.
Lariba said they have declared sitio Bayabas, one of the poorest communities in the city under a state of calamity.
Yesterday morning, they gave five gallons of mineral water to each of the 15 affected households.
The city government of Toledo is expected to release the P21,000-calamity fund today for the purchase of medicines and vitamins for the residents of sitio Bayabas.
He added they are also asking the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to extend assistance to those who are sick.
