Sun Life of Canada (Philippines) Inc., the first and longest-standing life insurance company in the Philippines, is marking its 120th year in the country this year.
“To last 120 years in any industry is not an easy feat. And being in a business that is really all about the fulfillment of long term promises and obligations not only to our clients but even future generations, our longevity is something that defines us and sets us apart,” said Sun Life President and CEO Riza Mantaring.
Making this milestone even more special is the fact that Sun Life is also celebrating this year the 150th anniversary of its founding in Canada.
In recent years, Sun Life significantly expanded its service reach to more key cities in the country; dramatically increased its agency manpower in Metro Manila and the provinces; and launched the first-ever financial literacy advocacy in the industry.
Aside from business expansion, Sun Life also took bolder steps to strengthen its efforts to help in the development and growth of communities through the Sun Life Financial -Philippines Foundation. Incorporated in 2009, the Foundation focused its efforts on four major areas of concern: healthcare, culture and education, environment and disaster recovery. When typhoon Yolanda struck, Sun Life was one of the first companies to respond to the appeal for help, extending financial assistance of over P15 Million channeled through various organizations.
All these led to Sun Life’s rise to the top: the company became the number one life insurance company in the Philippines in 2011, and is now regarded as a thought leader and a significant partner in nation-building.
Celebrating in Cebu
After kicking off its 120th anniversary celebration in Manila last January 28, Sun Life brought the festivities to Cebu.
This includes the staging of a play dubbed “Legacy: The Sun Life Story” at the Marco Polo Plaza on March 5 for the media, the company’s Financial Advisors and employees, and select clients. The said play has world renowned writer and director Floy Quintos at the helm, while veteran actors Robert Sena and Isay Alvarez will play the lead roles.
The company’s brand ambassadors, actor Piolo Pascual and industrial designer Kenneth Cobonpue, will lead the other activities. Cobonpue led a business opportunity forum for entrepreneurs interested in becoming Financial Advisors on March 7 at the Marriot Hotel. On the same day at 6pm, Piolo starred in “Timeless”, a thanksgiving show at the Ayala Terraces.
