Carmen accident: Motorcycle rider killed after bumping head on back of truck

CEBU CITY, Philippines – A vehicular accident in Carmen, Cebu claimed the life of a motorcycle driver who reportedly bumped his head hard at the back of a truck he was tailing past midnight on Friday, October 6, 2023.

Initial investigation by the Carmen Police Station revealed that the truck and the motorcycle were traveling in the same direction.

The driver, a 22-year-old resident of the barangay, allegedly bumped his head on the metal portion of the back of the truck and fell on the road.

The victim suffered serious injuries specifically on his head due to the strong impact of the bump despite wearing a helmet.

Carmen Police Station personnel arrived at the accident area at around 12:20 a.m. and rushed the unconscious motorcycle driver to the provincial hospital in Danao City for treatment. 

However, he was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Meanwhile, the driver of the truck who stopped his vehicle and waited for police to arrive, was brought to the police station.

The truck driver was a 33-year-old resident of Barangay Banilad, Mandaue City, Cebu.

At around 1:00 a.m., on Friday, family members of the victim visited the police station to talk with the driver. Both parties then decided to settle amicably after the driver promised to pay for damages. He was released soon after.

A follow-up investigation is being conducted by police to determine what really caused the accident. 

It was also revealed that the area is accident prone where motorists are constantly reminded to be cautious.   /rcg
