LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu- Senator Christopher “Bong” Go is asking the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) to pursue the filing of charges against the operator of the foreign commercial vessel that hit a Filipino fishing boat northwest of Scarborough Shoal at dawn on Monday, October 2.
The incident resulted in the death of three Filipino fishermen.
Go, who was in Cebu on Friday to attend various activities, said that a formal complaint should be filed against the foreign vessel, in order to give justice to the death of these fishermen.
“Apela ko po sa Philippine Coast Guard, i-review po ang existing protocols natin at tingnan ng mabuti kun mayroon bang pagkukulang o mga lapses. At kung meron po, dapat may managot nito at wala na pong maulit na ganitong insidente,” Go said.
Moreover, the senator expressed his sympathies to the three Filipino fishermen, who were fishing near Scarborough Shoal in the West Philippine Sea to earn a living, when the ramming incident happened.
In its report, the PCG said that they already identified the commercial vessel that may have been involved in the sea collision.

Meanwhile, Go also asked the Philippine government to always defend its territory against other countries that are claiming ownership of the West Philippine Sea.
“At yung karapatan natin, what is our, is ours. Kung atin yung zone o yung lugar kung saan sila nangingisda, atin yon. Karapatan natin at walang dapat mang-harass sa ating mga fishermen,” he added. / dcb
