Pump to be set up at Toledo well

The Provincial Engineering Office (PEO) will install a pump on the open well in sitio Bayabas, barangay Subayon, Toledo City anytime today to provide clean water for residents after 30 of them fell ill as of last Friday’s count.

This after the Provincial Health Office (PHO) earlier said the water sources in  sitios Bayabas and Piña tested positive for fecal coliform.

“The PHO recommended not to condemn the well because it’s a very good source of water, it won’t run out of water even during summer. What we need to do is chlorination,” acting Gov. Agnes Magpale said.

Magpale, Provincial Engineer Hector Jamora and sanitation engineer James Cañete visited sitio Bayabas.  Cañete said the well should be covered to prevent contamination.

Magpale said the province will buy a jetmatic tank to pump water from the well to the reservoir to facilitate its chlorination.

She said the province will spend P25,000 to set up the jetmatic tank which costs P5,000. Magpale said they will train barangay health workers on how to chlorinate the water.

Magpale said she noticed a piggery and two poultry farms situated near the well.

She said they will install drainage to channel the wastes from the piggery and the poultry farms and build additional communal toilets for the 25 families in sitio Bayabas.
