Cebu City has new acting police chief

Senior Supt. Mariano Batiancila has assumed as officer in charge of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).

Batiancila, chief of Police Community Relations (PCR) of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7), replaced Senior Supt. Condrad Capa, who started packing his things yesterday after he was reassigned to another post.

Capa said he received yesterday an order from Camp Crame designating him as executive officer of the Directorate for Integrated Police Office (DIPO)-Visayas which is a one-star rank position.

Capa clarified that politics has nothing to do with his reassignment, saying he considered the new assignment as a promotion.

Capa thanked Cebu City mayor Michael Rama for giving him the opportunity to lead the CCPO. Capa said that in his stint as officer in charge of CCPO, which lasted for three months and 10 days, his biggest accomplishments were ensuring the peace in the Sinulog celebration last January, the seizures of millions of pesos worth of illegal drugs and the arrests of big-time drug pushers.

It was Chief Supt. Prudencio “Tom” Banas, chief of the PRO-7, who ordered Batiancila to temporarily fill the void vacated by Capa.

Batiancila was previously assigned in Cebu City as chief of the Waterfront and San Nicolas Police Stations.
