PDEA-7 destroys illegal drugs worth P330.5M

Illegal drugs worth P330.5 million were destroyed by authorities in Cebu City on Thursday morning, October 12, 2023.

According to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Central Visayas or PDEA-7, a court order was issued earlier to allow the destruction of the illegal substances through burning.

In the presence of witnesses, the confiscated illegal drugs were presented to the public prior to their burning at the Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes located along Junquera Street in Cebu City.

Before the substances were destroyed through thermal destruction, PDEA-7 chemists performed a color test or the ‘Simon’s test’ on the confiscated drugs to determine their authenticity.

Skeletal remains of man believed to be missing for 7 years unearthed in Minglanilla, Cebu

It was a heartbreaking reunion for a mother and her son who had been missing for seven years. 

Jolan Tapales would have turned 31 years old this year but his life was tragically cut short. His skeletal remains were unearthed at a construction site in Upper Linao in Brgy. Lipata, Minglanilla town in southern Cebu on Thursday, October 12.

Jolan’s mother, Saturnina, immediately identified the remains as that of her son, who had been missing for seven years. She was able to identify him because of the basketball jersey he was wearing which bore their family name.

Saturnina said Jolan was a soft-spoken person who didn’t like trouble. She added that her son, who worked as a habal-habal driver was never involved in any illegal activity.

CCDRRMO: Returning Estero de Parian residents will be turned away, relocation lot forfeited

The Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CCDRRMO) has warned relocated residents of Estero de Parian that they would be turned away if they attempt to go back to their old residential area.

And for those who would insist on returning, the relocation lots awarded to them will be forfeited, said CCDRRMO head Harold Alcotin on Thursday, October 12.

On Wednesday, the joint forces of CCDRRMO, the Welfare of the Urban Poor, and Prevention Restoration Order Beautification Enhancement evacuated residents living in the Estero due to the risk of getting swept by flood waters when there is a downpour.
