Chef Chang shocks AJL Surplus, 62-60

BATCH 2007-Chef Chang bounced back from a disappointing loss, posting its own come-from-behind win after it frustrated Batch ‘90s/2001-AJL Surplus, 62-60, last Thursday in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (Cecaba) 14th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup at the CEC Gym.

Juan Carlo Espada and Raymark Ong combined forces, scoring 24 and 22 points, respectively, while combining for 14 rebounds as Batch 2007 pocketed its third win in five games.

Batch 2007 squandered a 19-point lead in its 67-74 loss to Batch 1996-Blakeley’s Motorcare last week but erased the stigma of that bitter defeat by coming back from a 23-33 halftime deficit.

Batch 2007 started its climb in the third quarter behind a 22-12 run, then held steady in the fourth to outscore its opponent, 17-15.

Paul Martin Gabatan finished with 27 points, 14 rebounds, seven steals and two blocked shots but his solid effort was put to waste as Batch ‘90s/2001 saw its five-game win streak come to an end and dropped to 5-2 (win-loss). Norman Lopez added 10 markers for the losing squad.

In the other game, Batch ‘80s/‘90s/2011- Koi Herbal got back on track after beating the listless Batch 2003-Dimsum Frito, 77-68.

Paul Cabellon finished with 20 points, eight rebounds, Stephen Tan scored 18, Joel Chan collected 11 points, nine assists and two steals, while Christopher Cokaliong tallied 10 points and eight rebounds as Koi Herbal recovered after tasting its first loss the other week and improved to 5-1.

Gwynn Uy scored 17 points, Calvin Ang added 15 and Jim Paul Yankee added 15 for Batch 2003, which stayed winless after six games.
