Three MPBA teams log dominating wins

CEBU CITY, Philippines—Rongcales, WJV-HP Real Estate, and Team Banilad-Luigi Bercede logged wins in the Mandaue’s Pride Basketball Association (MPBA) Season 2: Cebuano Cup last Sunday evening, October 15, 2023, at the Cebu Port Authority (CPA) gymnasium. 

Rongcales routed Darchy’s Commercial, 123-105, to grab the top spot of the northern conference team standings with an immaculate 3-0 (win-los) record, while WJV-HP defeated Angel Mary, 96-78, in the southern conference of the MPBA.

Team Banilad-Luigi Bercede, meanwhile, thrashed Outlaws, 114-75.

Five of Rongcales’ players headed by Eman Villamor scored double digits in their dominant win over Darchy’s Commercial. 

Villamor scored 28 points, while Aji Dimataga added 17 markers and Kenny Genobia scored 14 points for Rongcales. 

Their teammates Kyle Baclaan and Mark Monte combined for 22 points. 

Enzo Dayanan had a whopping 41-point outing, but it wasn’t enough to hand Darchy’s Commercial the win as their team dropped to 0-3. 

Nelson Caballero and Charlie Minoza unloaded 22 and 21 points, respectively, in WJV-HP Real Estate’s first win of the tournament.

Their teammate Jestoni Maloloy-on had a double-double game of 10 points with 17 rebounds, while Mark David Dignos and JMark Labarez scored 14 and 12 points, apiece.

Ed Tabar and John Javellana each scored 18 points as Angel Mary’s suffered their second defeat in three games. 

Lastly, Team Banilad Luigi Bercede grabbed their third win in four games. 

Masrel Atay and Jude Lungtad each scored 16 points for Team Banilad, while Adrian Pasgala added 15 markers. Godfrey Sabanal had 14 points, while Aaron Capuyan and Mars Carbonilla each tallied 13 markers for the winning squad. 

Kevin Reyes had 16 points for the Outlaws, which now has a 1-2 card in the southern conference of the MPBA.
