Broadcaster sued for Libel

The daughter-in-law of Cebu Provincial Board Member Thadeo Ouano filed a libel case against a radio blocktimer for allegedly maligning her on air.

Cheryl Ouano   filed her libel complaint with  the Mandaue City Prosecutor’s Office against Edward Ligas of radio dyKC last Wednesday.

She said  Ligas   vilified her   last January 13 in his radio program “Radyo Ronda”  by saying she was sleeping with her father-in-law Thadeo.

The complaint filed by the family’s lawyer Vicente Fernandez  said the commentaries were not only false and malicious, but were  intended to sow intrigue within her family.

Cheryl, her husband Alfie and children  live in the residence of  Thadeo and Linda Ouano.

Cheryl wrote to the National Telecommunications Commission requesting a copy of the broadcast and for dyKC to  preserve the recorded tape.

She said Ligas’ commentaries were focused on attacking Thadeo and Lollypop Ouano, her sister-in-law, since both are incumbent elected public officials.

In February this year, Thadeo Ouano also filed a libel complaint against  Ligas for his radio  commentary accusing Ouano  family members with alleged immorality.

He said that in December last year, Ligas  approached  him asking Ouano to sponsor his radio program.

Ouano said he forgot about the request because of his hectic schedule. He said he didn’t deny the request or commit to be  a sponsor.

Ligas  told Cebu Daily News that the charge was  part of the hazards of being a broadcaster.

“I welcome the case against me, and I am willing to face Cheryl Ouano for this,” he said.
