CEBU City Mayor Michael Rama welcomed the agreement of different government agencies to replace the missing trees and save the remaining ones along the center island in S. Osmeña Road.
“They have to do it fast. Now that I’m here, I don’t want any delay again,” he told reporters yesterday after returning from a conference in Japan.
In a meeting called by Councilor Nida Cabrera last Thursday, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-7) agreed to spend P197,500 to buy 79,000 seedlings to replace 79 missing trees along the road. The seedlings will be stored in a nursery for planting during the rainy season.
The city’s Parks and Playgrounds Commission (PCC) will lead the earth-balling of over 20 remaining trees with the assistance of DPWH-7 and its contractor WT Construction Inc. (WTCI).
Cabrera said they will start earth-balling the trees after the Holy Week next month.
A memorandum of agreement among the parties is set to be drafted and signed next week.
