MANDAUE CITY, Philippines – Mandaue City is set to suspend the collection of fees for vehicles transporting goods in the city.
Lawyer Lizer Malate, executive secretary of Mayor Jonas Cortes and head of the Business Permit and Licensing Office, said that the city will abide the Executive Order no. 41 of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., suspending the collection of ‘pass-through’ fees of local government units from vehicles transporting goods.
The EO aims to lower logistic costs and help prevent the increase in prices of basic commodities.
Malate said that they already met with the concerned office to discuss the matter.
He said that the suspension of the delivery permit would be referred to the city council for the issuance of an ordinance. This will probably referred to the council next week., he added.
Malate said that although the city does not have ‘pass-through’ fees and only charges a delivery permit fee, they would still adopt the EO.
“Usa na sa tahas sa atoang mayor nga mosuporta gyud sa gipagawas sa atoang presidente nga EO. Dili ra man gyud sad ni makaapekto sa atoang collection,” said Malate.
He explained that only those vehicles or logistics companies that serve customers in Mandaue are charged for delivery permits that are being collected yearly.
Those vehicles that are just passing through Mandaue from Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu City, or other areas were not subject to the fees.
The yearly delivery permit fee in the city is less than P500 depending on the size of the vehicles, he said.
Based on the BPLO data, there are only 347 motorcycles registered with around 3,000 four wheels and other bigger vehicles.
Earlier, the National Union of Food Delivery Riders-Cebu expressed that it hoped that the EO would be immediately implemented in Cebu LGUs especially the tri-cities in Cebu, Mandaue, and Lapu-Lapu. They explained that they shoulder the fees and not their partner companies.
