MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte will serve as the caretaker of the Philippines while President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is in Saudi Arabia, Malacañang said on Thursday.
After Marcos delivered his pre-departure speech at the Villamor Air base, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Cheloy Garafil was asked by reporters if Duterte would assume the role of caretaker of the Philippines.
Garafil simply replied yes.
Marcos left the Philippines for Saudi Arabia to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations-Gulf Cooperation Council Summit.
It will be a short trip, with Marcos set to return on Friday.
