Two wounded in Lapu-Lapu shootout

The acting president of a homeowners association in barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City was detained after he was involved in last Friday’s shootout with a policeman.

Ruben Rafols, vice president of the Corinthian Subdivision in sitio Masulog, shot PO3 Dennis Camomay in the leg.

Rafols took over as  acting homeowners association president after the president quit his post.

The policeman  was trying to mediate a conflict between other homeowners, who failed to pay their dues and whose water meters were removed by Rafols.

Rafols suddenly pulled out a gun  and shot the policeman, who is assigned at the Cebu Provincial Office.

Camomay was hit in the leg and fired back, wounding Rafols in the leg as well.  Rafols fired again as he fell to the ground, this time  hitting the policeman’s trigger finger.

Kevin Solon, Rafol’s nephew, who was armed with a .45 pistol, tried to help Rafols but he was stopped and arrested by a member of the Philippine Air Force living in the area.

A Police SWAT team later arrived and arrested Rafols.

Both Rafols and the wounded policeman were brought to the hospital for treatment.

Rafols was later detained at the police station pending the filing of a complaint for direct assault and malicious mischief.
