CEBU CITY, Philippines— The University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu Mandaue (UCLM) Webmasters cemented its hold of the high school team standing’s top position after clobbering the Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) Greywolves, 83-42, in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (Cesafi) basketball on Saturday, October 21, 2023.

The Webmasters now have six wins while remaining undefeated in the league, to lead the high school team standings.

Meanwhile, the Greywolves dropped to a 1-6 (win-loss) record. Their lone victory came from a game forfeiture against the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F) Baby Panthers after one of the latter’s players was suspended for moonlighting in a non-sanctioned tournament.

The Webmasters’ Geo Rey Lumagod topscored their game with 16 points, while Arnold Miñoza added 10 points. Mitchell Ferraren and Kian Luchavez combined for 16 points.

Josef Sarigumba, Jefferson Villaruel, and Vincent Zozobrado each scored seven points in the Greywolves’ dismal outing.

The Webmasters were already in full control of the game by leading 15 after the opening period, 42-27. They asserted their dominance in the second half after stretching their lead to 39, 69-30.

They incredibly held DBTC to only three points in the third period while unloading 28 points in the third period and went on to maintain their huge lead to seal their lopsided win.

USP-F 77, CIT-U 57

In the other high school game on Saturday at the Cebu Coliseum, the USP-F Baby Panthers trounced the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildkittens, 77-57.

The Baby Panthers would’ve logged their second win if not for the Cesafi officials’ decision to forfeit their win over DBTC last October 8. It was after Cesafi officials discovered that one of USP-F’s players was moonlighting.

Besides the forfeiture of their win, the alleged player was also suspended for the rest of the season.

Despite all these, the Baby Panthers overcame that huge setback by beating the Wildkittens. They were leading throughout the first period with a 16-point cushion, 45-29.

The Baby Panthers maintained their pace in the second half en route to claiming their first win of the tournament.
