CEBU CITY, Philippines — Civil Engineers-1/Stop Gap, Civil Engineers-5/Confix, and Civil Engineers-4/Rubberstop got on a winning start as the inaugural Buildrite Cup basketball tournament unfolded on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at the Cebu Port Authority (CPA) gymnasium. 

Civil Engineers-1/Stop Gap defeated UAP-DLL/Handyfix, 73-66, while Civil Engineers-5/Confix narrowly edged Electrical Engineers/Floorteck, 66-63, and Civil Engineers-4/Rubberstop escaped Mechanical Engineers-A/Smartbond, 83-80, which all happened in bracket A of the tournament.

Dexy John Suico and Richie Bactol tandemed in Civil Engineers-1/Stop Gap’s win by scoring 20 and and 18 points, respectively. 

Gerald Lentorio had 23 points for UAP-DLL/Handyfix. His teammates, Joseph Cabigas added 17, and Francis Dumadag and Justine Aspacio each had 12 markers in their defeat.

Meanwhile, Lolette Noynay paced Civil Engineers-5/Confix in their hard-earned win over the Electrical Engineers/Floorteck with his 15-point outing. Mon Xavier Dico added 13 points, while, Wesley Yasi chipped in 11 points in their win. 

Jan Manalili and Julio Nuera scored 16 points each in Electrical Engineers/Floorteck’s losing efforts.

On the other hand, Chris Alger Soroño unloaded 29 points to topscore the Civil Engineers-4/Rubberstop in beating the Mechanical Engineers-A/Smartbond. 

Ivan Deo spoiled his 39-point outing for Mechanical Engineers-A/Smartbond. His teammate Zircon Bulawan had 21 points, while Jaymar Paimalan had 10 points in their losing efforts.
