CEBU CITY, Philippines – A vacation turned into a tragedy after a tourist van in Carmen town, Bohol crashed onto a bridge and resulted in the deaths of three tourists, and injuring two more.

Police in Carmen confirmed that three tourists were killed in the accident involving a tourist van that happened at the Camanayon Bridge in Brgy. Buenos Aires, Carmen town in Bohol early Monday morning, October 23, 2023.

The fatalities of the van accident in Bohol were identified as Abelardo Cagampang, Marlon Ondos, and Janice Bonbon. All three are from Davao and were in Bohol as tourists, said Police Corporal Joey Baquiano, assistant investigator of the case.

The driver, Junre Cagampang, and two other passengers, Lucino Cagampang Jr. and Jasper Argones, also sustained injuries due to the tourist van accident and were rushed to a nearby public hospital.

According to police, the van and its six passengers departed from Panglao Island on Monday dawn, and were bound for the famous Chocolate Hills.

Citing reports from the traffic police, investigators said Cagampang allegedly fell asleep while driving which resulted in the van crashing onto the bridge.

In the meantime, Cagampang may face complaints for reckless driving resulting in multiple homicide and injuries, said Baquiano.
