CEBU CITY, Philippines –A campaign sortie in Barangay Talamban, Cebu City almost ended fatally after a sports utility vehicle (SUV) hit and injured six individuals, including an aspiring barangay captain, on Tuesday, October 24.
The vehicle, a Toyota Rush Wagon, hit a group of people while campaigning for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections in Sitio Kalubihan, Barangay Talamban, the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) of the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) confirmed.
Among the 6 injured was an aspiring barangay captain.

The incident happened around 9:15 a.m., according to initial findings from the traffic police.
The group was walking beside the road in Sitio Kalubihan when suddenly the SUV, driven by a certain ‘James’, hit some of their members, resulting to 6 injured in the group.
Police nabbed James, who apparently fell asleep while driving from work as a call center agent to his home in the neighboring Barangay Bacayan.
The SUV sustained damage, particularly on its right-side front bumper and fender. The impact also resulted in flat tires on the rear right side.

Investigators continue to verify the names of the wounded individuals as of this posting.
Meanwhile, the driver was brought to a nearby police station. He may face complaints for reckless driving resulting in multiple injuries.
