Elusive drug suspect nabbed

AFTER eluding several arrests, a man wanted by police for selling illegal drugs was finally arrested  yesterday in barangay Inayawan, Cebu City.

Darwin Tibay was arrested by operatives of the City Intelligence Branch (CIB) in  sitio Upper Torre.

Tibay’s brother is a councilman in the barangay.

Since 2012, at least five operations to arrest Tibay were conducted but the man eluded arrests.  Tibay  denied that he was a drug lord although he  admitted he was previously involved in the illegal drug trade. He said he stopped selling  drugs two years ago.

He said that he was on the second floor of his house when police arrived and arrested him.

Santander said the CIB had worked for two years to arrest Tibay.

The police official said a poseur-buyer bought a pack of suspected shabu worth P1,000 from Tibay.

After the arrest, packs of suspected worth P70,000 were recovered from Tibay’s possession.

Senior Supt. Marciano Batiancela, acting chief of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said Tibay’s arrest was the result of the public’s active support in the  campaign against illegal drugs.

Batiancela said a concerned citizen tipped off the police of his activities.

Authorities said shooting and other gang-related incidents in Inayawan could be attributed to illegal drug activities.

Police provided the media with a list of top drug personalities in Cebu City but names in the list will not be published until charges are filed in court.
