SOME of Cebu’s best amateur players take the floor today as the 1st Open Basic Basketball Tournament unfurls its maiden season over at the Cebu Coliseum.
According to league organizer Rolando Adarna, the league got the nod of 28 teams which they have bracketed into four divisions. Teams will play a single round-robin in their bracket with the top two of each division advancing to the quarterfinals.
Every game from thereon end will be a knockout match with the champion squad receiving a cash prize of P20,000. The runners-up will receive P15,000, P10,000 and P5,000 respectively. The Most Valuable Player will also receive a cash incentive of P2,000.
Teams are allowed to field in former varsity and commercial players so long as they do not exceed the height limit of six-feet. Games will be held at the Cebu Coliseum as well as venues in Cebu’s different municipalities.
