City stops bridge works in Tejero

The Cebu City Government has intervened in the construction of a  bridge over a creek in barangay Tejero.

City Engineer Jose Marie Poblete said he inspected the site last week and convinced the owner to temporarily stop the work until requirements are met.

Kakeng Development Corp. plans to build a  warehouse in the interior of  the barangay and wants  to construct a bridge over the creek for  the use of their vehicles.

Poblete  asked the owner to submit to the Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) a copy of their development plan for review by city engineers.

“Considering that it’s over the creek, we have to see if it’s not too low because if it is, we can’t dredge the creek anymore,” he said.

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama earlier said he wants the bridge  open for public use.

Tejero barangay officials earlier issued a cease-and-desist order against the bridge project.

It was found out that the owner had not secured a permit from the barangay.
