CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) oval renovation  is “doing very well,” according to Acting Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia on Monday, December 11.

On Monday, several government officials of Cebu City visited CCSC to assess the feasibility of hosting Sinulog 2024 back at the center. This evaluation followed their inspection of the venue at the South Road Properties.

Garcia noted that the renovation progress was positive, emphasizing the ongoing work on the drainage system inside CCSC.

“Nakita ninyo nga naay drainage area didto, ilang giuna ang drainage kay og mo-uwan, mo-overflow, moadto sa rubberized nato nga area. That’s why di gyud sila [contractor] mobutang og rubber not unless mahuman to ang drainage,” Garcia told reporters.

Target date for completion

The target completion date for the renovation is February 2024, according to CCSC Executive Director Jovito Taborada. This timeline is set in preparation for the Cebu City Olympics, the Central Visayas Regional Athletics Association (CVIRAA) meet, and the Palarong Pambansa scheduled for July 2024.

“As long as mahuman nani. Nakita sad ang swimming pool nga it’s also in progress, so we’re very optimistic nga we can deliver ang we can have a very successful CVIRAA hosting and as well as the Palarong Pambansa hosting,” Garcia said.
