CEBU CITY, Philippines – One was killed while four were injured in a vehicular accident on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at around 11:00 a.m. in Brgy. Upper Calajoan, Minglanilla town.
This after a forward truck truck collided with two motorcycles and two cars. All of them were traveling in the same direction.
The victim, identified as Ian Edsel Barangan from Naga City, lost his life on the spot after getting trapped under the truck. The accident occurred as the truck, driven by Noel Pedrida, came from Alcoy and was about to deliver chickens to Compostela town in the northern part of Cebu.
Reports suggest that the truck lost its brakes upon reaching the area, hitting the vehicles in its path. Barangan’s passenger and three individuals from the automobiles also sustained injuries in the crash.
Aside from the collision, the truck also damaged an electric post and a water pipe. A witness reported the truck was traveling at an excessive speed, crossing into the outer lane and striking the vehicles.
Noel Pedrida, the truck driver, has been detained at the Minglanilla Police Station.
Glenn Antigua, head of Minglanilla Traffic Command (MITCOM), highlighted previous complaints about similar vehicles engaged in reckless driving. MITCOM will collaborate with the Minglanilla Police Station for a thorough investigation into the incident. /clorenciana
