Alcoy police chief denies shooting woman with airsoft gun during gambling raid

THE head of the Alcoy police station denied shooting a woman with an airsoft gun during an anti-illegal gambling operation in barangay Guiwang last Thursday.

Senior Insp. Jomar Medil, in a phone interview, said he was bringing his service firearm at the time, not an airsoft gun during the operation.

Medil said when they arrived in the area, most of those playing the card game “tong-its” scampered  to avoid arrest.

The recovered two sets of playing cards and P118 bet money.

Ledina Antig accompanied by  Councilor Nicholas Fuentes reported to the police station that Medil slapped her and shot her with an airsoft gun causing wounds in her legs.

Illegal gambling charges were filed against Antig yesterday.

Medil said they used the blotter report when Antig reported about the shooting as evidence because she admitted that she was among those who were playing “tong-its”.

Medil said they may also file complaints against Councilor Fuentes as it was stated in the blotter that he was among those playing the card game with Antig.

Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) chief Supt. Rodolfo Albotra Jr. earlier said  Medil would be placed under investigation.

“He has the right to do that (filing the case) while the provincial office  conducts an investigation to verify allegations,” said

Albotra assured a fair inquiry.
