CEBU CITY, Philippines – An electric bike (e-bike) driver and a delivery app rider, who are both ex-convicts, landed back in jail after they were caught with P2.7 million worth of suspected shabu during a buy-bust operation in Cebu City on Thursday, February 1, 2024.

The arrested persons were identified as e-bike driver Rimark Espinosa Canoy, 33, and delivery app rider Oscar Togino Abanes, 22.

Both are residents of Sitio Mansanitas, Barangay Duljo Fatima.

A police report revealed that the two were collared in a buy-bust operation in Sitio Black Cats in Barangay Duljo Fatima at around 9:15 p.m. on Thursday by operatives of the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit (RPDEU)-7, under the supervision of the Regional Intelligence Division (RID-7).

Operatives seized 400 grams of suspected shabu worth P2.7 million from Canoy and Abanes.

The police report said that the two men were placed under surveillance for at least a month prior to the conduct of the buy-bust operation.

Contact person at the city jail

According to the police, the two would sell to buyers here and would source their supply of shabu from a contact, who is currently detained at the Cebu City Jail.

Canoy and Abanes were also jailed earlier for a drug-related offense.  They were recently released from detention and went back to selling illegal drugs.

In their report, the police said that the two men can dispose a kilo of shabu per week.

The two drug suspects remain at the RPDEU-7 detention facility while law enforcers prepare for the filing of charges for the possession and sales of illegal drugs against them.
