Collection of hospital wastes resumes next week

The Pollution Abatement Systems Solution Inc. (PASSI) will  resume collecting  infectious wastes from medical facilities next week.

William Cunado, Central Visayas director of the Environmental Management Bureau, said PASSI was already issued a Treatment Storage and Disposal (TSD) permit by their central office and was only awaiting the issuance of a  transport permit.

“We assure our clients that we have enough containment to accommodate the disposed infectious waste,” Engr. Julito Pogoy, PASSI president, said in an interview yesterday.

DENR 7 Regional Executive Director Isabelo Montejo met with PASSI officials and representatives of medical establishments and service providers at his office yesterday morning to discuss their capabilities and concerns.

Montejo said the agency already gave PASSI a list of requirements to be met for the renewal of their permits.

DENR suspended PASSI operations because of deficiencies noted in their disposal and waste water facility  in  854 square meter lot in barangay Inayawan, Cebu City.

The waste collector have been operating in the area for the last 11 years.

“We are also anticipating that the volume of collection will be doubled.  That’s  why we are eyeing four to five new more locations,” he told reporters.
