Thousands attend Kadaugan Street Party

Hundreds of thousands of Lapu-Lapu City residents and visitors attended the opening of the three-day Kadaugan Street Party, one of many activities held in celebration of the annual Kadaugan sa Mactan.

Senior Supt. Armando Radoc, acting Lapu-Lapu City police chief, said the party which opened late last Saturday was generally peaceful and drew a larger crowd than last year.

“We’ve been monitoring from the foot of the Marcelo Fernan Bridge to the Hoops Dome and everything went smoothly,” Radoc said.

About 641 personnel from the police, Navy and Air Force were on hand to secure the street party route.

The route consists of the Manuel L. Quezon Highway, Maximo Patalinghug Avenue, Humay-Humay road, Hoops Dome and City Hall grounds.

Radoc said the anti-drunkenness ordinance was suspended for the occasion based on a resolution passed by the Lapu-Lapu City Council.

“Daghan nangahubog kay ang uban diha na nangatulog sa dalan pero walay gubot (many were drunk, there were persons who slept on the roads but there was no trouble),” he said.

At the Hoops Dome area, a huge crowd attended the Reyna Bulakna pageant participated in by 14 candidates.
Euvelyn T. Samson of barangay Looc, Lapu-Lapu City won the contest and the top P30,000 cash prize.

Runner-up honors and the P25,000 cash prize went to Diane Cathleen Y. Melgar of barangay Pajac.

Second runner-up was Krisha Juliane Ybañez of barangay Mactan while the 3rd and 4th runners-up were Regine Taneo of barangay Babag and Jenny
