Cebu City Hall’s scholars who graduated with honors last March will receive cash incentives soon.
The City Treasurer’s Office (CTO) and the Cebu City Scholarship Committee are preparing cash vouchers to be issued to these scholars.
Based on the committee’s data, at least 182 out of 2,500 city scholars graduated with honors.
“This is a good indication that our scholars are competent, competitive and ready to take on their respective roles in society,” said City Councilor Alvin Dizon, who heads the education committee.
Earlier this year, the City Council approved an ordinance authored by Dizon to grant cash incentives to scholars who graduate with honors. Under the approved ordinance, scholars who graduate summa cum laude will receive P20,000.
Magna cum laude graduates will receive P15,000 while P10,000 will be given to the cum laude graduates. Of the 182 honor graduates, 13 were magna cum laude and 169 graduated cum laude.
The Asian College of Technology International Education Foundation had the most number of graduates with honors with 61–four magna cum laude and 57 cum laude.
Next was Cebu Normal University with 50 (two magna cum laude and 48 cum laude) followed by the University of Cebu Main with 33 (four magna cum laude and 29 cum laude).
Other schools with scholars who graduated with honors include Cebu Technological University (one magna cum laude and 18 cum laude) and Cebu Eastern College (10 cum laude).
