CEBU CITY, Philippines – Omega Boxing Gym’s Benny “The Bull” Cañete will headline the “Blow-by-Blow” fight card on March 24 at the Okada Manila Hotel and Casino.
Organized by Manny Pacquiao Promotions and Johnny Elorde International Promotions, Cañete will face off against Noli James Maquilan from the Peñalosa Boxing Stable in a 12-round bout for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Continental bantamweight title.
Cañete is coming off a remarkable first-round knockout victory against Thai boxer Phissanu Chimsunthom in January at the “Kumbati 16” event held at NUSTAR Resort and Casino in Cebu City.
That victory stretched Cañete’s winning streak to three fights and improved his record to 10 wins with seven knockouts and one defeat.
Cañete’s lone defeat was against Kenneth Llover by unanimous decision in January last year.
This will be Cañete’s first shot at a major regional title, while Maquilan, undefeated since 2021, is also eyeing his first regional title.
Maquilan, hailing from Compostela Valley, turned his career around after his debut loss to Jover Amistoso in 2021.
Since then, he has won eight consecutive fights, five of which ended by knockout.
Maquilan secured the Philippine super flyweight title in November last year with a fourth-round TKO victory over Dannel Maamo. /clorenciana
